CIRCULATION SERVICES


Membership Registration
The library will register all UTHM students and staff as library members. New students and staff are advised to check their account through the library website. Users who have not yet registered as library member, must do so at Circulation Counter. Borrowing eligibility for each member will be determined according to the patron category.

Borrowing and returning
Borrowing of library materials can be done at the Circulation Counter or by using the self-check out machine. Users are required to bring their student/staff card when dealing at the counter or when using the machine. Users are prohibited from using other user’s card. Users will be given a borrowing slip for each transaction. Users are strongly advised to check the due date on the slip or check through the borrowing record in their library account in order to avoid fines for late returns of library materials.
Returning of library materials can be done at the Circulation Counter or by using the Book Drop. Users will be given a returning slip for each transaction. Users are advised to keep the slip until they check the borrowing record in their library account and ensure that the record has been updated.

Reminder/Overdue Notice
A Reminder Notice will be sent to users through e-mail 2 days before the due date. This notice is sent to inform users of the due date and to remind them for loan renewal. If users fail to return the library materials before due date, the 1st Overdue Notice will be sent 1 day after the due date. If users still fail to return it, the 2nd Overdue Notice will be sent 7 days after due date and if users still fail to return, the 3rd Overdue Notice (final notice) will be sent 13 days after due date and their account will be temporarily suspended. Users are required to come to the library to return the library materials and to reactivate their account. Users are advised to check the due date on the borrowing slip or through the borrowing record in their library account in order to avoid fine for late return of library materials.

Replacement of Lost Materials

If users found that the library materials that they had borrowed were lost, they are required to report at Circulation Counter immediately. Users will be given 1 month to search for the lost materials. If they still could not find it, they are required to replace the lost materials with the same materials or pay the price of the materials.

Replacement of Damaged Materials
If users found that the library materials that they had borrowed were damaged, they are required to report at Circulation Counter immediately. The librarians will estimate the amount of damage that should be paid by the user.

Renewal
Renewal can be done online through borrowing record in library’s user account. Users can only renew twice. No renewal is allowed if other users have made reservations for the same items. Online renewal can be done before the due date.

Reservation of Library Material
Library materials that have been borrowed by other users can be reserved at the Circulation Counter or through the library catalog. The reserved materials will be located at the reservation shelf (Circulation Counter) for 7 days after the materials are returned by the borrower. If the user who had reserved the materials did not turn up to collect the reserved materials until the period ends, the reservation will be cancelled, and the reserved materials will be located at the open shelf. Users are advised to check on the status of the materials that they had reserved through the reservation record in their library account.

Delivery Service
Delivery Services is provided for academic staff only, within campus area. This service covers reserved material that consists of open access books, audio-visuals and interlibrary loan materials. The titles requested for will be placed under user library account and will be sent to requester’s office upon his confirmation. Besides, user also can request for returning the materials borrowed through this service.



REFERENCE AND INFORMATION SERVICES

Reference Service
Library users who are looking for library materials for research purposes are advised to consult the librarian at the Customer Service Room. Users can discuss with the librarian to get some guidance on the information searching techniques based on the users’ needs. The librarian will identify the exact needs of the users before suggesting relevant information resources. Reference Service is opened to all users within library opening hours.

Information Skill Class
Information Skill Class is a guidance program specifically on library services and facilities usage. The librarian will conduct the class on a specified date in every semester. The discussion topics include materials searching techniques through the library catalogue and information searching through the online databases. By attending this class, users will be given the opportunity to apply the searching technique with guidance from the librarian.

Interlibrary Loan (ILL)
Interlibrary Loan Service is a service that allows users to borrow library materials that are unavailable in UTHM Library but can be obtained from other local academic libraries and British Library. Reference materials that can be borrowed through this service are books, journal articles and conference proceedings and standards. The service is free of charge. The length of borrowing period is subject to the rules imposed by the supplying library. Users are required to fill in an ILL Application Form available at the Circulation Counter. Users will be informed about the status of the application through e-mail or telephone.

Selective Dissemination of Information
Selective Dissemination of Information (SDI) service that available at the library consists of Latest Journal Content Page and New Arrivals Listing Dissemination. The Latest Journal Contents Page Dissemination service is particularly for academic staff in which the selected digital journal content pages will be composed directly to the inbox of respective requesters’ e-mail. Whereas the New Arrivals Listing Dissemination service is provided to give alert or current awareness to the users by compiling and publishing the listing of new materials received. This listing is arranged by faculty and distributed to both students and staff.
